Four Men Killed by the Falling of a Pennsylvania Mine Roof
Aberdeen Daily News, Aberdeen, SC
June 12, 1889

Wilkes-Barre, Pa., June 11. -- A terrible accident occurred at the Gaylord mine, Plymouth.  A number of miners were at work in a large breast when, without warning, the rocky roof fell in upon them.

Four men were instantly killed: Reese Lloyd, Pat Carley, William Williams and Matthew Davis.

Two Poles had their legs cut and will probably die.  Insufficient propping to sustain the roof was the cause of the accident.
