Rescuer Deaths
Four miners were killed in the gas explosion.  In an attempt to rescue any survivors, two fire bosses were suffocated by afterdamp.

The deceased:
  • John D. Joseph, Assistant Foreman, age 53
  • William R. Jones, Fire boss, age 52
  • Joseph Worth, Fire boss, age 48
  • William D. Lacey, Contractor, age 44
  • Thomas Owen, Miner, age 35
  • James Herron, Miner, age 33
