Telegram from E. Comfort To: J. J. Forbes, D. J. Parker, and Edward Taylor, Bureau of Mines, states:
Explosion at small mine of the Nortonville Mining Company, near Nortonville, Kentucky.  Five killed.  Four bodies recovered.  Powell and Herbert leaving for Nortonville tonight.  Washington notified.
Newspaper clipping states:
The fall followed an explosion was supposed to have been caused by a short circuit in the electric circuits when the current was turned on this morning.
