Four carpenters retimbering the air shaft at the Lochgelly mine of the New River Coal Company were killed in a fall of 200 feet down the shaft when the scaffolding on which they were working gave way.

The deceased:

• Roscoe Taylor, 23
• Charles Thompson, 43
