A cave-in occurred in which seven men were killed in a downrush of gravel, mud and water.  These men were working in the North Morgan seam, which is covered with about 200 feet of gravel, clay and earth.  Without warning, it gave way and rushed into the mine, burying the men who were in its path.

  • W. H. Bird, 38, married
  • Dan Dick, 32, married
  • Frank Erspamer, 45, married
  • A. P. Meshishnek, 32, single
  • Edwin Smith, 23, single
  • George Temby, 28, married
  • T. E. West, 32, married
