Four men were asphyxiated at this mine by gases generated by detonating a charge of 11 tons of powder.  All the men overcome by these fumes were in the hydraulic pit on the surface.  The victims were E. E. Godfrey, John Hayes, Joe Tieni, and T. H. Sadler.
