See more about the Sunshine Mine Fire

See the children cryin'
fearin' their daddy's dyin'
Broken hearts everywhere
. . tonight

There's sadness in the valley
children cryin' for their daddy
It's as dark in their hearts
as it is down in the mine

It was on May 2nd,
nineteen hundred seventy-two
It was a day like any other
that is for me and you

But for ninety-one men
their future's they could not see
It was goodbye forever
hello eternity

Chorus

See the children cryin'
fearin' their daddy's dyin'
Broken hearts everywhere
. . tonight

There's sadness in the valley
children cryin' for their daddy
It's as dark in their hearts
as it is down in the mine

It was on that fateful morn
the foreman gave the cry
There's fire in the Sunshine Mine
someone is bound to die

Searchers began to search
loved ones began to pray
I guess we never will forget
what happened on that day

Chorus

See the children cryin'
fearin' their daddy's dyin'
Broken hearts everywhere
. . tonight

There's sadness in the valley
children cryin' for their daddy
It's as dark in their hearts
as it is down in the mine

Death stalked the Sunshine Mine
like a silent killer, he found his prey
Men never knew what happened
on that fateful day

As the poisoned gas took its toll
loved ones hearts were filled with fear
For nine long days they waited
for news they would never hear

Then as suddenly as it began it ended
then came the news we all did dread
The foreman said "it's all over now"
You loved ones can go on home
There's two survivors, ninety-one dead

Chorus

See the children cryin'
fearin' their daddy's dyin'
Broken hearts everywhere
. . tonight

There's sadness in the valley
children cryin' for their daddy
It's as dark in their hearts
as it is down in the mine
