I WANT TO TELL YOU A STORY, IT HAPPENED IN AUGUST OF 1963 OF HOW MYSELF AND A BUNCH OF FELLOW COAL MINERS CHEATED THE EARTH OF THE LIVES OF TWO MEN BUT SADLY COULDN'T HELP THE THIRD WELL THE BIG RIG WAS ROARIN', PUNCHIN' A HOLE DEEP INTO THE EARTH THE MEN WERE WORKIN' DAY AND NIGHT RIGHT AROUND THE CLOCK SO HANG ON FELLOWS WE'RE COMIN' WE'RE GONNA SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB WE LOCATED DAVE FELLIN AND HANK THRONE, BURIED ALIVE OVER THREE HUNDRED FEET IN THE BOWELS OF THE EARTH, BUT THERE WAS NO WORD ON THE OTHER MINER, LOUIS BOVA AND THE BIG RIG KEPT ROAIN', PUNCHIN' A HOLE DEEP INTO THE EARTH AND THE MEN WERE WORKIN' DAY AND NIGHT AROUND THE CLOCK SO HANG ON FELLOWS WE'RE COMIN' WE'RE GONNA SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB WE OVERCAME A LOT OF OBSTACLES WE WERE DETERMINED TO SUCCEED NO ONE HAD EVER ATTEMPTED SUCH A RESCUE BEFORE BUT, HELL, WE WERE HARD WORKING COAL MINERS AND WE KNEW NO QUIT AND FINALLY AFTER TWO WEEKS THE BIG RIG STOPPED ROARIN', DAVEY AND HANK WERE SET FREE EVERONE WAS HAPPY, WE KNEW THAT WE'D BEAT THE ODDS WE'RE SORRY, LOUIS BOVA WE COULDN'T SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB AND THAT IS THE STORY OF THE SHEPPTON MINE DISASTER OF SIXTY-THREE WRITTEN IN 1984 AND RECORDED IN 1987 BY SINGER SONGWRITER RONNIE SANDO/ RJ COLTIN A MEMBER OF THE RESCUE TEAM |
