I WANT TO TELL YOU A STORY, IT HAPPENED IN AUGUST OF 1963
OF HOW MYSELF AND A BUNCH OF FELLOW COAL MINERS
CHEATED THE EARTH OF THE LIVES OF TWO MEN
BUT SADLY COULDN'T HELP THE THIRD

WELL THE BIG RIG WAS ROARIN', PUNCHIN' A HOLE DEEP INTO THE EARTH
THE MEN WERE WORKIN' DAY AND NIGHT RIGHT AROUND THE CLOCK
SO HANG ON FELLOWS WE'RE COMIN'
WE'RE GONNA SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB

WE LOCATED DAVE FELLIN AND HANK THRONE, BURIED ALIVE
OVER THREE HUNDRED FEET IN THE BOWELS OF THE EARTH,
BUT THERE WAS NO WORD ON THE OTHER MINER, LOUIS BOVA

AND THE BIG RIG KEPT ROAIN', PUNCHIN' A HOLE DEEP INTO THE EARTH
AND THE MEN WERE WORKIN' DAY AND NIGHT AROUND THE CLOCK
SO HANG ON FELLOWS WE'RE COMIN'
WE'RE GONNA SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB

WE OVERCAME A LOT OF OBSTACLES WE WERE DETERMINED TO SUCCEED
NO ONE HAD EVER ATTEMPTED SUCH A RESCUE BEFORE
BUT, HELL, WE WERE HARD WORKING COAL MINERS AND WE KNEW NO QUIT

AND FINALLY AFTER TWO WEEKS
THE BIG RIG STOPPED ROARIN', DAVEY AND HANK WERE SET FREE
EVERONE WAS HAPPY, WE KNEW THAT WE'D BEAT THE ODDS

WE'RE SORRY, LOUIS BOVA
WE COULDN'T SET YOU FREE FROM YOUR TOMB
AND THAT IS THE STORY OF THE SHEPPTON MINE DISASTER OF SIXTY-THREE
