Victims were fatally injured when they were engulfed in a slide of sand and gravel of approximately 30 to 60 cubic yards (85 tons).

Those killed were identified as Paul V. Bello, 23, of Utica and Raymond A. Linck and James M. Weeks, Jr., both 18 and both of Chadwicks.
