Some of the nine miners previously thought to have died in a shed explosion last week in Southwest China's Yunnan province were killed by gun shots, local police said Monday (11/22).  A shed of Xiaosongdi Coal Mine exploded after explosives in it were detonated at 9 am last Thursday when Zheng Chunyun, boss of nearby Yuejing Coal Mine, arrived with more than 80 people armed with knives and steel bars.  Nine people were killed and 48 others injured in the incident, most of them were with Zheng.  See more

On Monday, Nov. 22, rescuers pulled to safety 29 people trapped in the flooded Batian Coal Mine in southwestern China, about 24 hours after they were stranded in the pit.  22 of those rescued were miners, while the other seven were people sent down after the accident in an initial rescue bid who also became trapped.  See more about this and see more success stories.
